Our team of Technical Loss Prevention Consultants consists of ex-seafarers with a combined seagoing experience of almost 100 years. They are dedicated to assisting our Underwriters with vessel screenings and analysis of condition surveys, translating their knowledge and experience into risk advice for tailor-made insurance solutions.
Pieter joined MSIG Specialty Marine in 2017 as a Loss Prevention Executive and now heads the Loss Prevention Services department. He has spent most of his career as a seafarer, sailing as a Captain on general cargo vessels for more than 16 years. He also has more than a decade of ship management experience.
Pieter studied at the Scheepvaart en Transport College in Rotterdam and is a licensed Master Mariner.
Ilian started his career at MSIG Specialty Marine as a Client Advisor in the Loss Prevention Services (LPS) department, soon becoming a Contractual Loss Prevention Consultant. He started his marine insurance career at the Noord Nederlandsche P&I Club, where he worked as a Claims Handler.
Ilian holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Sofia University, as well as a Master’s degree in International Economic and Business Law and a PhD in International Maritime Law from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Ilian has also completed several training courses organised by the Lloyd’s Maritime Academy, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI).
Robbert joined RaetsMarine, prior to its acquisition by MSIG Specialty Marine, as a Risk Advisor. At MSIG Specialty Marine, he is a Technical Loss Prevention Consultant, providing technical assistance and advice to underwriters, claims handlers and external clients.
Robbert started his career as a Maritime Officer with various shipping companies, followed by a Marine Surveyor role with Ameyde Marine.
Robbert studied at the Maritiem Instituut de Ruyter in Vlissingen.
Peter joined MSIG Specialty Marine’s Loss Prevention Services department as a Technical Loss Prevention Consultant in 2022. In his role, he undertakes risk assessments and provides technical advice to underwriters, claims handlers and external clients.
Peter started his career in 1989 as a Maritime Officer with Nedlloyd Fleet Services. He became a Fleet Manager with the National Police Service, followed by a position as Marine Surveyor with BMT Netherlands BV.
Peter graduated from the Maritiem Instituut De Ruyter in 1989. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Business Administration from the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
Michel joined RaetsMarine, prior to its acquisition by MSIG Specialty Marine, as a Risk Advisor in 2011. At MSIG Specialty Marine, Michel serves as a Technical Loss Prevention Consultant. In his role, he assesses survey reports and determines product risk while also providing technical advice to underwriters, claims handlers and clients.
Michel has spent most of his career as a seafarer, starting as a Second Officer on coasters owned by Kustvaartbedrijf Moerman and moving to the Chief Officer position on board of general cargo vessels owned by Spliethoff and heavy lift vessels owned by Big Lift.
Michel obtained his Master Mariner certification from the Hogere Zeevaartschool in Rotterdam.
Ferry joined RaetsMarine, prior to its acquisition by MSIG Specialty Marine, as a Risk Consultant. At MSIG Specialty Marine, he serves as a Technical Loss Prevention Consultant.
Ferry started his career in 1981 with Smit International as an Engineer, where he worked for 27 years. He subsequently undertook a variety of technical management roles working with marine vessels.
Ferry studied mechanical engineering at the Hogere Zeevaartschool.
